weight loss Myrtle BeachLet’s talk about exercise – not my favorite subject, how about you?

I went to the gym on Monday and it was packed. I couldn’t even get to some of the weight machines I normally use. Yesterday was a little better, I guess most people had to work and I was there during normal working hours (one of the perks of being your own boss.)

By mid-January it will thin out as New Year’s resolutions wear off. Been there – done that.

Before I started working with Sheila, I was spending 1-2 hours at each workout session. I would try to get three sessions in each week but even that was difficult with my schedule. It was 60 minutes on the treadmill with a 5 minute cool down, 20 minutes on the weights and 15 minutes on the elliptical. As I mentioned in previous posts, I had hit a plateau with the weight loss and really felt I was getting nowhere (ever had that feeling?)

Sheila talked with her trainer and come up with a better plan. 25 minutes on the treadmill with an incline of 10 or 25 minutes on the elliptical but not both. Then my normal weight training. This cut my time at the gym in half and now I am able to go 4-5 times a week. It doesn’t seem like such a big deal to spend 45 minutes instead of close to 2 hours at the gym. Win-Win.

The weight started dropping almost immediately. Yes, I did gain back a few pounds over New Years but it is coming right off.

The thing with exercise is to find a plan that works for you and your schedule where you can be consistent. Today for example, I have a meeting that is 45 minutes away and starts at 8:00 am. Yes. I could have gotten up at 5:00 and gone to the gym but that just wasn’t going to happen. So I will take a 20-30 minute walk around noon and then pick up my regular routine tomorrow. Find simple ways to fit in some exercise – even if it is in short bursts during the day.

How many of you have Fit-Bits or something similar. I am thinking about getting one but I am afraid I will replace regular exercise with counting steps during the day. Post your thoughts in the comments below.

It is getting close to the new product launch from ReLiv and I am getting so excited. Sheila has helped me with a good start and this will take it to the next level. From what I understand, this will be a 3 part program. Stay tuned for all the details.

In our next post we will discuss accountability – what it is and what it is not.

Until next time …..
